The options are many of course. Switzerland’s skiing destinations are perhaps the ones that come to mind most readily with resorts such as Zermat and Verbier to choose from. Austria has resorts such as St. Anton, St. Christoph, Kühtai or Obergurgl that you can opt for.

Lapland or Finland offers resorts such as Saariselka, Levi and Ylas. France is another European destination for the skiing enthusiast, with skiing destinations such as Courchevel, Tignes, Val Thorens and more besides.

If you prefer the other side of the Atlantic for your skiing holidays, Canada and the United States have some of the best skiing destinations as well. Banff, Kimberley, Lake Louise, Mount Tremblant and Whistler are some of the destinations you can opt for in Canada. Breckinridge and Jackson Hole are among the skiing destinations in the United States.

Choosing a skiing destination

How good the skiing is at the time depends upon the climate of the place, time of year and the amount and type of snowfall they have had in the recent past. So be sure to research how good the slopes are at the time of the year that you aim to travel.

You will also want to decide whether you want to opt for a ski chalet (for privacy or for larger groups), or whether you prefer a hotel. Also consider whether you would be happier in a large, well equipped resort or a small intimate establishment tucked out of the way.

You should look for destinations that fit your level of skiing expertise – beginner, intermediate or expert, so you have the best holiday possible. Some package deals offer you freebies such as free lift passes or a discount for larger bookings; so look out for those.
